frequently asked questions
What are the benefits of taking a prenatal yoga class?
Prenatal yoga increases overall strength, flexibility and well-being
and helps prepare you physically for giving birth. Connecting with
and learning to use the breath helps a woman meet the more challenging
moments of labor. Gentle movements during class help relieve discomfort
and allow more room for the baby to grow and the organs to function
properly. Learning to relax your body, you can begin to open the
mind, the heart, and the hips.
What if I have never done yoga before?
No problem! Class is designed to honor the needs and limitations
of pregnancy. No previous experience is necessary. Much of the class
is done with our eyes closed, so no one is able to compare themselves
to others.
What should I wear?
Comfortable, loose fitting clothing.
What should I bring?
Bring a water bottle and a mat if you have one. Otherwise, Rosemary
Court has mats and we use Hospital blankets at Lakewood Ranch. You
may want a pillow for the end of class when we rest. You are welcome
to bring a snack if you feel you may need one.
When is the best time to start?
The sooner you begin the process of preparing your body and your
mind, the better. Whenever you begin, even if it is in your third
trimester, you will notice the benefits before, during and after
the birth.
Prenatal Yoga will help relieve the discomforts you may be feeling
and give you remind you to use long, deep breaths during the day
to keep the baby calm.
Can I still attend regular yoga classes?
Unless you have been doing yoga for many, many years, it is better
not to. If you do, make sure your yoga instructor knows that you
are pregnant. There are certain postures that we suggest you refrain
from during your pregnancy. It is better not to take chances.
